Housebeautiful.Com shared an easy to follow instructional on how to properly install smoke detector alarms.
“Decide where to position your detectors. In kitchens, the National Fire Protection Association recommends that they be positioned 10 feet away from cooking appliances. Install detectors within 15 feet of sleeping areas so that everyone can hear the alarm if it goes off—even if their doors are closed. Single-story homes: in hallway, between sleeping and living areas. Ideally place on ceiling, at least 12 inches away from wall or light fixture. On inside walls, place 6-12 inches lower than ceiling height. Large or multistory homes: as above, plus at bottom of staircase and on each staircase landing. Also consider buying interconnected alarms so that smoke or heat detected on one level can trigger alarms all over the house.”
