One may have the insurance for it, but flood damage still causes so much stress to the property owner.
ABC11.com captured the sentiments of flood-affected residents during the two-day severe weather problem in North Carolina which happened in May last year.

“The rain left some homeowners with wet basements and their cars underwater.”

Detroit was also affected by adverse flooding last year. Mlive.Com quoted Michigan Governor Rick Snyder empathizing with his constituents who have been severely affected by the historic flooding last August.
“Snyder shared with WJR 760 AM radio host Frank Beckmann that his family residence had to deal with a leaky basement several times in the past due to weather. And Snyder, nearing the end of his first term, added that his family’s vacation home recently suffered roof damage due to high winds from a recent storm that knocked down trees.”

But not all flooding incidents are caused by weather disturbances. In GoGetFunding.com, a military family appealed for donations to help them rebuild their house after they woke up to flood waters in their basement following the malfunction of their sump pumps:

“We found out our insurance company capped our damages we were devastated once again. We lost so many personal belongings including our furniture and our main hangout space.”

At the onset of any emergency – man-made or otherwise — one must be prepared to act fast to prevent more damage from taking place. Whether the preparation is in the form of emergency funds, disaster-preparedness kits or having a directory of go-to numbers to call in cases of flood damage, one must anticipate possible dangers in order to stay safe.
