Molds are extremely dangerous especially to young kids, that is why every household or commercial structure should do what it takes to avoid this, and address mold infestation, if and when something like that is happening already.

In Texas for instance, firefighters have been displaced due to mold infestation in their firehouse. Firerescue1.com shared that infestation had firefighters go to their homes overnight because their sleeping quarters have been affected by mold growth.

“Inside of Station 75 is locked up and firefighters can no longer sleep in the building at night. Deputy Chief Scott Schoonover said mold shut down the station a few weeks ago. Instead, firefighters have to go home and hope nothing happens overnight. A temporary building is expected to arrive in two weeks, but it cannot be put to use until it has electricity, according to the report”

Displaced because of Mold Infestation

In Louisville, government workers have been displaced as well by mold growth. Insiderlouisville.com shared at least 300 workers were relocated from their contaminated building.
“Moving employees from the Urban Government Center on Barret Avenue has been in the works since the building was found to have mold, creating a health hazard for workers and an environmental concern. The city workers also will be leaving the old Baptist Hospital, which is located next door. Metro expects the move to begin in the fall.”

Fire Extinguisher Uses Sound Instead of Chemicals in Extinguishing Fire

British website, The Independent has featured a fire extinguisher that stops the spread of fire using sound. “Two engineering students from George Mason University in Virginia have invented a potentially revolutionary fire extinguisher that uses low-frequency sound waves instead of water, gas or foam. Demonstrated in the video below, the cylindrical device, smaller than many more traditional fire extinguishers, is held about a foot away from flames and immediately snuffs them out.”

Sound Versus Fire

According to CNET.com the idea is to decrease the oxygen that makes a fire spread. “The technology is based on the way sound waves displace oxygen as they move through physical space — oxygen that fire feeds on. If you can suffocate a fire, you can extinguish it, so the pair set to work. They discovered that music is unsuitable — the sound waves it produces are inconsistent. A higher frequency sound caused the flames to vibrate, but that was all. The lower frequencies — 30 to 60 hertz — seemed to be the so-called “Goldilocks zone” at which the waves were able to effectively keep the oxygen from the flames long enough to suffocate them. The next step was the development of a portable, handheld extinguisher. DARPA’s device, for example, was a large machine that can’t be easily moved around. The prototype they developed consists of the sound frequency generator, a small amplifier, and a collimator made out of a cardboard tube with a hole at the end, to focus the waves in a specific direction.”

PBS.Org wowed the invention saying the subwoofers extinguishing fire is like a scene cut out in a futuristic movie.

“The extinguisher works by pulsing air across the base of the flame, the boundary layer at which the combusted material produces the flame itself. The deep sound produces successive blasts of air which disrupt the process of combustion. Eventually, the flame peters out. The waterless extinguisher could be used in a variety of situations. Tran suggests that they could be installed in kitchen hoods to quickly kill grease fires. Server rooms packed with computers could also benefit. And among fire departments, it’s likely to be combined with other tools available to firefighters, giving them a leg up on the biggest of blazes.”

American Family Insurance for instance gave in its website tips on how to prevent fires especially during the holiday season. “Safety tips for holiday decorating: Keep your holiday tree well-watered. Trees, especially when dry, can easily ignite from hot holiday lights; before adding them to a tree, check your bulbs to ensure they are working properly and that there are no shorts in the wiring.”

“Black mold is a toxic fungus that grows in buildings and homes that have water problems, such as damage from flooding or an unknown leak. Black mold produces spores to reproduce, and these spores can cause health problems in people ranging from hay fever-like respiratory problems to skin rashes. The symptoms of black mold exposure are largely the same in children as in adults, although children can be at risk for more severe complications.”

This story featured by British website Daily Mail will however make you cringe, if not get downright alarmed over how a Florida couple allowed their two children to be exposed in a very filthy house whose floor is covered in molds. “In the bathroom, the shower contained a kiddie pool reportedly filled with stagnant water covered in a brown film, while mold coated the floor.
