Molds can be unassuming at times, and if one does not pay too much attention on the food that he or she is eating, mold poisoning can occur especially on food that has long been stored.

Family Health Freedom Network has enumerated various signs and symptoms of mold poisoning.

“When mold is inhaled into the lungs, it leaves its mark on your body in a variety of ways. Mycotoxins are produced by mold, and many of them can be measured in your urine, saliva, or stool. Mold exposure can cause health problems that baffle doctors and experts, as they seem to have little in common. On the mild end, you may see inflammation and an uptick in allergies. On the more serious end of the scale, you may experience asthma, oxidative stress, and immune problems. There are several symptoms you can look for as you try to figure out whether or not you’ve been exposed to toxic mold.”

Critique and Discover

The Website Paradigm Shift featured how to handle mold poisoning in the family, as it critiqued an episode of a popular TV show. Black Molds

“The government recognizes respiratory problems as being a possible outcome of mold exposures, but does not yet recognize that many other typical symptoms (such as neurological ones) also may be related. By keeping the emphasis on officially recognized symptoms of mold rather than discussing disputed ones, the Dr. Oz show may have reduced criticism of their coverage of the topic. Jill and Kaitlin’s telling of their story made it seem that as soon as they moved out of the moldy house, all their problems were resolved. At least for people with typical severe toxic mold illness, recovery usually takes a lot more time than that.”

Another dangerous side effect of molds as shared by the website Hopes and Fears, is possible Hallucinogenic Hysteria. “Some anthropologists theorize that the murderous mania of the Salem Witch Trials wasn’t caused by religious panic or hectic politics. They blame ergot, a grain fungus that causes paranoia, hallucinations and convulsions—the same symptoms that were thought to be caused by “bewitchment.” Historic gastronomist Sarah Lohman recently spoke about this in her lecture series Masters of Social Gastronomy. She paired up with Jonathan Soma to connect food to the times and places of our past, whether it’s cuisine from the Colonial era or the chop suey of early Chinese immigrants to the US.
